The Statement of TPLF’s Central Committee at a glance
The Central Committee of TPLF held its regular meeting for seven days, from September 26 to October 2, 2012 E.C. The committee, during those seven days reviewed, in detail the development and good governance plans, organizational and political works, and in particular the struggle for the survival, well-being and security of the people of Tigray in the new political arena in the 2011 Ethiopian budget year.
Having assessed the weak and strong sides of that particular chapter, the central committee outlined the development and political plans to be implemented in 2012, the new Ethiopian fiscal year.
It concluded its meeting by reviewing the current trends and developments at a nationwide along with identifying the right directions and plans to more solidify its next struggle,
The committee indicated that it has been doing its utmost making the safety of its people the nucleus of all its campaigns and struggles, resisting all those forces who always work round the clock to pull it out of its right track.
The central committee indicated that last year, it has been, on the one hand, in the fight against poverty and on the other hand against all forces against the well-being and survival of the people of Tigray. The challenges from all directions to make the people of Tigray and its party TPLF surrender have not been as simple as one may think, the committee underscored. These forces have left no stone unturned in their endless efforts to conspire against the people and government of Tigray thinking that they are the only ones preventing them from realizing their aspiration which is against the interest of the general public.
TPLF and the people of Tigray now are, however, found on the right track by having paralyzed their enemies’ backbone via their rational struggle and tactful resisting strategy and unwavering dedication as they have been aware of all sorts of traps enemies have traped for them to trip on.
In this regard, the central committee in its statement indicated that all this would not certainly be succeeded without the efforts of the people of Tigray. As the history of the people of Tigray could witness, no one had ever granted it permission to exercise its rights and privileges. The same is true that there would be no one else, but its own struggle, to let these proud people exercise any sort of human or democratic rights.
The statement further stated that TPLF would, beyond this, work to mobilize all the experiences it has accumulated so far in the fight to ensure the survival and well-being of its people. It would also like to assure that it would take special interest in working with political organizations and civic organizations moving in the region.
One of the basic issues that the Central Committee of TPLF has reviewed in detail is the prospect of the challenges overshadowing the nation at this very moment and all possible future threats. Currently, the crisis in the country is being escalated with rampant destructions, and the magnitude and extent of the damage is becoming more and more widespread every day.
The statement mentioned the rush to establish a national party by merging the constituent and allied parties of EPRDF as one of the factors adding fuel to the fire on the ground. It should be noted that the issue to establish a national party is not a new idea. It had been discussed by the party for quite a long period of time at various stages. However, there were some preconditions that the party has agreed to be addressed with research prior to that.
So, in this regard, TPLF did not conceptually have a different belief. Nevertheless, it firmly believes that the dream to establish such a national party could be realized only if the constituent parties of the front have common beliefs and outlooks in their ideology that in turn let them have similar programs and strategies. Otherwise, such a national party established in such a way could not sustainably exist as an organization. Moreover, such wrong deeds would inevitably have a boomerang effect that they could, far beyond what is mentioned result in national disintegration.
Furthermore, the rushes since the past recent times to merge the coalition of EPRDF thereby establish a national party contrary to the front’s rules and regulations is not only exacerbating the controversies but also clearly indicating the extent of the leadership’s being undemocratic. Generally speaking, establishing quite a new different party in such a way is against law.
It implies that EPRDF, the party Ethiopians gave the legal right through their votes to lead the country based on the programs it came up with during election would no longer be able to govern the country. Such an illegal party that did not come and gets through the registration law of political parties and the public’s consent respectively does not have the moral both to compete for election and hold power. Therefore, a totalitarian party should never be allowed to be established under the cove of creating one national party.
Forces of multinational federalism should strengthen and maintain the cooperation and struggle you already initiated knowing that you have no other option other than that. In this regard, TPLF assured all federalist forces via its statement that it would do its utmost to transform the struggle already started to the required level.
It also indicated that TPLF and the people of Tigray in this case would like to assure the National Defence Force, which is the most responsible for maintaining the constitution, peace, and the well-being of all Ethiopians and the nation that they would, as usual, stand by its side and do whatsoever expected from them in all its institutional efforts to safeguard the sovereignty of this ancient and historical nation, Ethiopia. The 6th national and regional elections must be carried out in accordance with the constitution.
Eventually, the central committee conveyed a message to the respected people of Eritrea. The people of Tigray and Eritrean are brothers who have fought for their common rights and interests. So, the green light seen last year should be able to continue in a more strengthened manner in 2012 so as to bring the existing relationship and support to a sustainable level. In this regard, the two brotherly people should work together for lasting peace by strengthening the ties of both peoples so that they can start a new era of relief and peace. The statement assured the people of Eritrea that the people of Tigray and TPLF would do whatever is required from them to further strengthen this.
